ADB Project No: 54142-002: Preparing Renewable Energy for Climate Resilience (conduct of studies to prepare three (3) Bhutan solar PV power plant sites)

Narrative:
This Technical Assistance (TA) aims to introduce solar PV technology at utility scale, which is a novelty and innovation to the hydropower-dominated power sector in Bhutan. Moreover, this TA will support further development of non-hydro renewable energy sources in the country by providing Bhutan’s utilities with important expertise in this field.
Following were the major scope of the assignment:
- A pre-screening and pre-selection of the most suitable solar sites among Bhutan’s proposed sites, which range from potential installed capacities from 15 megawatts (MW) to 90 MW each;
- Preparation of feasibility studies (the “Study”) for the three best-ranked sites;
- Environmental and social due diligence;
- Economic and financial due diligence; and
- Preparation of cost estimates and bidding documents to enhance project readiness.
- Conduct Thimphu Roof Top Solar Pilot (RTS)
